$300M order placed for record transmission capacity at 800 kV level

Switzerland, Zurich: Orders worth $300 million have been placed for the supply of converter transformers for two long-distance ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission links in China capable of transporting up to 10,000 MW of power at the 800 kV voltage level.

The 800 kV, 509 MVA converter transformers will make it possible to increase the power transmission capacity of the Ximeng-Taizhou and Shanghaimiao-Shandong UHVDC links to a record 10,000 MW of electricity at this voltage level, which is 25 percent more power compared with recent 800 kV UHVDC links.

The transformers for the project will be supplied by ABB.
