USA, North Carolina: Multiple fire departments responded to a large transformer fire and a subsequent oil fire on Monday evening at Southern Power Plant Rowan in Salisbury, North Carolina.

The fire was caused by a malfunction at the transformer, according to Rowan Emergency Services Fire Division Chief Deborah Horne, who said the main issue was the mineral oil housed inside the transformer, reports Salisbury Post.

The transformer fire, which was extinguished by midnight, affected Plant Rowan Unit 1.

The entire plant was taken offline when the fire occurred, and the facility will remain offline during the investigation of the cause of the fire.
