$1.17B Central Asian transmission project to be launched next month
Afghanistan, Kabul: The $1.17 billion CASA-1000 power transmission project will be inaugurated by the officials from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan next month, after the competent ministries from the four countries finalized the document and decision on the implementation of the project.

The CASA-1000 project will pave the way for the transmission of electricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Afghanistan and Pakistan through 1,250 kilometers of high voltage transmission line, reports The Nation.
Two converter stations with power transformers and associated electrical equipment will be built for the project, including a 1,300 MW AC-DC converter station at Sangtuda, Tajikistan.
Another high-voltage transformer will be built in the city of Pul-e-Khumri, Baghlan province to ensure supply of 300 MW of electricity to Afghanistan.
The project will be financed by the World Bank, United States, United Kingdom, European Investment Bank and Islamic Development Bank.
