$8.6M transformer project for the Canaries and Balearics completed
Spain, Madrid: Spanish largest electric utility company Endesa has completed a €7.6 million ($8.6 million) improvement project aimed at ensuring reliable operation of its power plants in the Canary and Balearic Islands in the event of a failure of the main transformers.
Spain, Madrid: Spanish largest electric utility company Endesa has completed a €7.6 million ($8.6 million) improvement project aimed at ensuring reliable operation of its power plants in the Canary and Balearic Islands in the event of a failure of the main transformers.
The three-year project included the design, manufacture and installation of 11 poly-transformers which will be used as strategic units capable of replacing any of the 115 main transformers at the thermal and diesel power plants in the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands, the company said in a press release.
Four different transformer manufacturers were contracted to design the transformers so that they can be assembled in different assembly configurations providing 11 units that can replace a total of 115 different types of generator transformers in the event of failure.
The power ranges of the transformers have been adapted to the size of the units at the plants going from 2 to 162 MVA, while their voltage level goes from 20 to 230 kV according to the voltage levels of the distribution and transmission grids of each island.
