Uganda investing $100M in new mega substations

Uganda: The government of Uganda has awarded CAMC, a Chinese construction company, a contract to build four mega substations, projected to cost about $100 million.
The new GIS substations with power transformers and all requisite electrical equipment are planned to be set up in the Luzira, Namanve, Mukono and Iganga industrial parks, reports ESI-Africa.
The scope of the project includes construction of a 132/33 kV, 3×32/40 MVA substation in Luzira; 132/33 kV, 3×40/63 MVA substation in Mukono; 132/33 kV, 2×32/40 MVA substation in Iganga; and 132/33 kV, 3×40/63 MVA substation in Namanve.
Mark Namungo, senior power analyst at the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited, said that the project will reduce power losses due to an improved transmission system from the current 33 kV to the anticipated 132 kV voltage level.
