Eskom secures $1.34B for its $17B capital expenditure programme

South Africa: South African power utility, Eskom, has signed loan agreements with the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the sum of $1.34 billion towards the utility’s capital expenditure programme.
Eskom’s 2016-2020 capital expenditure programme includes investments in new generation, power plant refurbishment, transmission network and capacity building in excess of $17 billion, reports ESI-Africa.
Eskom has recently informed that its capacity expansion programme to build new power stations and increase transformer capacity and high-voltage transmission power lines is progressing well.
AfDB’s investment will be partly directed at the construction of the transmission network and infrastructure required to evacuate power from South Africa’s IPP programmes.
