Variable reactors combine the design of shunt reactors with the reliability of the tap changers, have a large control range and are particularly advantageous when used for varying voltages and load fluctuations, the manufacturer said in a statement.

This shunt reactor, with a control range at a previously unattainable level, has been developed by Siemens Transformers in the Siemens Transformer Nuremberg plant.
