Eversource to move massive transformer to Northfield substation

USA, Massachusetts: The electrical utility Eversource will be moving a giant transformer to its substation at the Northfield Mountain Pumped Storage Facility on Millers Falls Road in three parts over the next three weeks.

 


USA, Massachusetts: The electrical utility Eversource will be moving a giant transformer to its substation at the Northfield Mountain Pumped Storage Facility on Millers Falls Road in three parts over the next three weeks.

Deliveries are scheduled between 3 and 15 August and involve transport of transformer parts weighing nearly 136 tonnes, which will require a special truck that is more than 26 m long, reports MassLive.

The parts will arrive in Northfield via freight train and will be on a rail siding on Upper Farms Road. From there, the parts will proceed south on Millers Falls Road, then left into the Northfield Mountain driveway to the substation.

The convoy’s maximum speed will be 16 km per hour. The total route is approximately 8 km and the trip should take two to three hours to complete.
