Ireland, Aran Islands: Residents of two of the Aran Islands are hoping ESB Networks will be able to deliver a vital transformer to Inis Oírr to restore power supplies to it and Inis Meáin.

The two Irish islands have been without electricity since the early hours of Friday morning (5 August) after a fault with an undersea cable, reports RTE.

A specialist generator has already been brought to Inis Oírr, but the transformer is also needed, and bad weather has prevented its delivery.

If it can be ferried across today, ESB Networks hopes to have power restored by this evening.
