USA, California: Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) plans to replace the venerable substation on the edge of downtown Sacramento with a facility with a new look.

According to plans submitted to the city, SMUD would build a new two-story control building which would replace the existing building on the northeast corner of H and Sixth streets, reports Sacramento Business Journal.

The new substation and substation yard, with power transformers and associated electrical equipment, would be built west of the new control building.

The development site would include two “pocket parks” for public use.

Pending planning approvals, SMUD is hoping to start work on the project in late 2017, with most of the construction during 2018.
