Germany, Niestetal: The new substation at the Sandershäuser mountain in Niestetal, Germany is taking shape, with the large power transformer from the Netherlands delivered to the site.

The 200-tonne 380/230 kV transformer was manufactured in Nijmegen for the new $14.5 million (€13 million) substation, which is built over a two-metre deep oil drainage pit covered by the fire protection grid, reports HNA.

In the event of a fire, burning oil from the transformer can flow directly through the lattice and be stifled under it because of the lack of oxygen.

When the new substation is commissioned, the old one will be reconstructed on the other side of the A7 motorway.
