Electrical equipment contract awarded for hydro project in Laos

Andritz Hydro, part of Austria-based Andritz Group, has received an order from the Phonesack Group Limited to supply electromechanical equipment for the Nam Theun 1 hydropower project in Laos.

 


Andritz Hydro, part of Austria-based Andritz Group, has received an order from the Phonesack Group Limited to supply electromechanical equipment for the Nam Theun 1 hydropower project in Laos.

The scope of supply comprises design, manufacture and the supply of the complete electromechanical equipment including the main transformer, medium- and low-voltage switchgears and a 500 kV gas-insulated switchgear, reports Blackbird.

Nam Theun 1, which will use the water from the Nam Kading River, is a major project of the Laos and Thai Power development plan and will strongly contribute to the grid stability in both countries.

Electricity will be supplied to Laos and Thailand by dedicated transmission lines.

Commercial operation is scheduled to start by the end of 2020.
