USA, Georgia: A transformer caught fire on the grounds of Plant Bowen in Georgia, nation’s ninth-largest power plant in net generation of electricity.

“We can confirm that there was a transformer fire contained within the switchyard at Plant Bowen today — there is no fire inside the plant structure itself,” Georgia Power spokeswoman Ashley West said.

The fire reached the roof of the building, causing moderate damage to the building and extensive damage to the transformer yard, reports AJC.

Two firefighters were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, but West said initial information points to equipment failure related to the transformer.
