Sudan: Sudan’s ministry of electricity and water confirmed a total power blackout across the country on Sunday but is yet to announce the exact cause of the situation.

The ministry gave no explanation for the blackout, but said in a statement that engineers and technicians were trying to restore power. It added that more information would be provided later.

The development comes on the second day of a sit-in protest by thousands of citizens, which is being held in close proximity to the presidential palace in Khartoum.

This is not the first time that Sudan has experienced a complete shutdown of its power supply network.

In February 2018, the National Electricity Network Control Centre advised that a complete power blackout hit all Sudan’s states, which was the third time in less than two months.
