Maine: A damaged transformer at the substation in York Beach caused widespread power outages throughout York affecting more than 6,000.

According to Central Maine Power spokesperson Catharine Hartnett, CMP workers determined the transformer was too badly damaged to be repaired and the decision was made to truck a new one in from Augusta. They are still looking into the cause of the damage, Hartnett said.

She said workers were able to bring electricity back to York Harbor by rerouting power. But York Beach remained in the dark until the transformer was installed overnight.
