New $1.5 M investment for Aberdeen energy upgrade

UK: Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said it will put $1.5 M (£1.2 M) into upgrading work to replace electrical equipment at Ruthrieston substation.
The substation, which has been delivering power to the area since the 1960s, services around 7,500 properties in the south-east of Aberdeen.
The works are part of a $13 M (£10 M) upgrade by SSEN to boost the electricity network across the city.
New transformers and circuit breakers will help restore power more quickly following a power cut, SSEN claim.
Kevin Stewart MSP for Aberdeen Central said: “I welcome this huge investment from SSE which is great news for households across the city.“
SSEN said it expects to complete the new upgrade by September 2020.
Michael Hilferty, head of region for North Caledonia at SSEN, added: “Last year we announced a multi-million pound investment programme for Aberdeen and we’re pleased to continue delivering on this commitment with another phase of works to upgrade power supplies in the city.
“We’d like to thank our customers for their patience as our teams work in the area, including transporting large transformers to the substation so homes and businesses continue to receive the power they need, now and in the future.”
