Transformer explosion knocks out power in Orange County

Orange County: A transformer explosion created traffic troubles and a power shutdown in Orange County Thursday morning, February 6, around 5:30 a.m.

USA, Orange County: A transformer explosion created traffic troubles and a power shutdown in Orange County Thursday morning, February 6.

One resident who lives along Orange Turnpike and East Mombasha Road in Monroe said they heard the explosion around 5:30 a.m. and looked out the window to see a fire in their front yard.

Monroe police and fire department personnel responded along with Orange and Rockland Utility crews to put out the fire and turn the power off.

Nearly 80 customers lost power.

Crews were on scene digging to make sure there were no other issues underground.
