Coldwater, Michigan: The Coldwater B.P.U. Board of Directors approved a bid of just under $2.2 M on Wednesday night from Kent Power of Rockford for the construction of the Butters Avenue substation.

CBPU officials say the Butters Avenue substation will alleviate loading restrictions at the Garfield Road substation and improve the reliability of roughly 5,000 customers connected to the Garfield Road and Bennett Street substations.

Kent Power submitted one of four bids for the project. They have worked on a number of B.P.U. projects in the past including the 2017 construction of the Jonesville Road substation.

GRP Engineering recommended the approval of the bid which includes site preparation, underground facilities, above grade structures, interconnection of electrical assets and termination of cable on riser poles.

B.P.U. Director Jeff Budd says two power transformers from Delta Star are scheduled to be delivered in May. The tentatively scheduled date for the completion of the substation is October 31, 2020.
