India, Tamil Nadu, Chennai: The quality of power in the Cauvery delta districts will improve as the Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation has commissioned a 230kV transmission line.

The 77.31 km transmission line from the new 230 kV substation at Neyveli to Kadalangudy was commissioned at on 27 April.

Work to complete this line was going on despite the lockdown. A senior Tantransco official said workers had been following social distancing and had used sanitizers and masks while working due to Covid-19.

“The final leg of work has been carried out on a war footing for the past one week amidst Covid-19 threat to maintain uninterrupted power supply to the delta districts like Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Pudukkottai,” the official said.

The total cost of the project is $13.4 M (Rs 100.82 crore). This is a second 230 kV circuit from Neyveli to the delta area. “This line will add flexibility to operation of 230 kV feeders and will improve the voltage profile in the delta areas, particularly during ongoing agricultural season,” the official said.
