France: The installation of Saint Nazaire’s offshore substation is due to start in summer 2020, despite COVID-19 impacts.
Chantiers de l’Atlantique started production for the offshore substation in January 2020 but for the past few weeks work has had to be suspended due to the health situation.
Located 12-20 km off the Loire-Atlantique coast, France, the 480 MW Saint Nazaire wind farm will feature 80 GE Haliade 160-6 MW turbines with commissioning expected in 2022.
Chantiers de l’Atlantique is responsible for the topside and jacket-type foundation design, manufacturing and commissioning. The jacket measures 50 m in height and weighs 1,200 t. The topside is 20 m high, 40 m long and 30 m wide, and weighs 2,200 t.
GE’s Grid Solutions is in charge of high voltage electrical equipment and protection control systems design, manufacturing and commissioning and SDI/DEME is in charge of the transport and installation of these structures, including the offshore pre-piling works.
Heavy Lift DP2 jack-up vessel INNOVATION is expected to install the piles for the jacket foundation during summer 2020 and the DP3 installation vessel ORION, with a a 5,000 t crane, will be mobilized for installation of the topside in 2021.
