Canada, Ontario, Oshawa: An end-of-life transformer is being replaced with a new 50 t transformer at a substation in Oshawa.

The work, began by Oshawa Power this week, will take until 12 June to complete. Oshawa Power’s technicians will connect all primary, secondary, and protection devices to the transformer. That will be followed by a series of on-site tests to ensure the transformer meets all industry testing specifications prior to being turned on.

Replacing the transformer at Municipal Substation 10 is part of the Oshawa Power’s Renewable Capital Plan as the existing transformer has reached the end of its life. Replacing end-of-life transformers ensures a reliable supply of electricity for Oshawa customers. The average lifespan of a transformer is about 40 years.

According to Oshawa Power, customers will feel no impact by the work. Making this improvement enhances the overall performance of Oshawa’s electricity grid and enables Oshawa Power to use the grid efficiently to provide reliable and safe supply.
