Germany: Ørsted has awarded Semco Maritime a one year service contract for programmed preventive maintenance on the two offshore substations for Borkum Riffgrund 1 and Borkum Riffgrund 2 in Germany.

Semco Maritime will perform maintenance work on the substations’ low voltage utilities and fire, safety, and structural systems. The contract furthermore includes upgrading of the helideck system on the Borkum Riffgrund 1 substation. The maintenance work will mainly be performed by teams from the Semco Maritime office in Norddeich, Germany.

“We look forward to working with Ørsted and ensuring that the sustainable energy produced at sea is brought to shore as smoothly and efficiently as possible. At the same time, we are pleased to return to the two substations, which we know quite well from the construction of Borkum Riffgrund 1 and various installation, hook-up and commissioning activities at Borkum Riffgrund 2,” commented Mads Iversholt, Director, Service Wind at Semco Maritime.

The Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm has an export capacity of 450 MW which is expected to power around 460,000 German households annually. The operations of the wind turbines are managed by Ørsted’s operations management center in Norden-Norddeich. The project is jointly owned by Ørsted and Global Infrastructure Partners. It was the first German offshore wind farm to feature 8 MW turbines and suction bucket jacket foundations.

Borkum Riffgrund 1 officially entered operations In October 2015. Located 37 km off the German island of Borkum, it has a capacity of 312 MW featuring 78 SWT-4.0-120 turbines.
