USA, Maine, Blue Hill: Versant Power, formerly Emera Maine, has built a new substation in Blue Hill to replace an aging 50-year-old facility.

“We are now completing line work needed to move customers to the new substation,” said Versant spokeswoman Judy Long.

Over the last several years, the company has put particular emphasis on improvements that affect reliability, including designating an engineer whose sole focus is minimisation and elimination of customer outages, the spokeswoman said.

“As part of this project, we are splitting up a distribution circuit,” Long said. “This distribution circuit in Blue Hill is one of the top five on our system in both physical length of the line and number of customers being served.”

“As a result of our work in splitting up the circuit, fewer customers would be affected if an outage occurs on a line going forward,” Long said. “Where a fault on this line would now affect 8,000 customers, the rebuild will allow us to feed about 3,000 of those customers on another circuit.”

The old substation will be removed once line work is complete.

In other business, Versant will lower distribution rates for all customers for a four-month period beginning on 1 September.

The company plans to offer its customers more than $8 M in rate relief.
