Ørsted and Eversource announce to develop new offshore wind farm

Ørsted and Eversource announced on 20 October their joint proposal to develop Sunrise Wind 2, a new offshore wind farm for New York State.

USA, New York: Ørsted and Eversource announced on 20 October their joint proposal to develop Sunrise Wind 2, a new offshore wind farm for New York State.

The submission includes multiple bids with different configurations that will provide clean, renewable power to hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers, and a commitment to invest hundreds of millions of dollars into the state economy and create substantial new jobs.

This proposal, submitted to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, will help New York reach its ambitious climate and clean energy goals established by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s nation-leading law, the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act. The state plans on 9,000 MW of offshore wind by 2035.

Sunrise Wind has also joined with New York’s preeminent transmission developer, Con Edison Transmission, which will support the development of the transmission facilities needed to deliver the offshore wind energy to the electric transmission grid and have the opportunity to acquire certain
