Slovenia, Ljubljana: UK special transport company Collett & Sons was called on to collect a 68t electrical transformer from the manufacturing facility in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and deliver it via the Port of Vlaardingen to a substation in Tilbury, Essex.

The electrical transformer was 6.98 m long, 2.4 m wide and 3.82 m high. Appointed by Slovenian engineering and technology group Kolektor, Collett collected the 68 t power transformer along with multiple trailer-loads of ancillary equipment required for the project.

Upon arrival in the UK, the transformer and various ancillary units were transported to Collett’s dedicated Heavy Lift Terminal at Goole in Yorkshire for storage and handling in preparation of the onward shipment to Tilbury in Essex.

Collett called upon its own specialist hydraulic jacking and skidding equipment on site to manoeuvre the transformer into position. The company then deployed a mobile crane, supplied under a CPA Contract Lift basis, to offload and install the remaining ancillary items.

The project took six weeks to complete from origination in Slovenia to final delivery in Tilbury and required the cooperation between Collett’s European Department, Project’s, Engineering and Heavy Lift teams.
