AI systems provide a lot of promise in the analysis and evaluation of power system data. This article shows some of the benefits of the application of AI, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the approach, and provides a way forward to apply AI in a meaningful and controlled manner.

There is a large push to use artificial intelligence and machine learning to help reduce the time of performing maintenance on transformers and predicting where and when the next transformer will fail. AI systems provide a lot of promise in the analysis and evaluation of power system data.
