Heavy snow and strong winds cause New Jersey power outages

USA, New Jersey: As of late 1 February, heavy snow and strong wind gusts continued in New Jersey causing downed trees, branches and wires.
“We thank customers for their patience as we continue to monitor the forecast and work to restore power,” said Jack Bridges, PSE&G vice president, Electric Operations. “Due to the nature of this storm, we anticipate having pockets of extended outages and remind customers to prepare as much as possible.”
Here are the highlights of the storm response, according to PSE&G:
- More than 800 line workers, tree trimmers, surveyors and other utility personnel were dedicated to the restoration effort. PSE&G secured 68 additional line personnel from out-of-state to assist with power restoration.
- Electric service crews worked to restore outages safely and as quickly as possible and continued to work throughout the night.
- PSE&G reported 820 of its approximately 2.3 million customers were currently without service as of 1 February.
- As of 8:30 p.m. (EST) on 1 February, PSE&G restored power to nearly 3,700 customers.
Due to high winds, PSE&G line crews were unable to work in the bucket trucks to make repairs until the winds died down. Following the storm, the crews worked to assess the damage and make repairs.
In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the company has adapted its storm and safety procedures to follow public health guidelines and industry best practices.
