Spain, Seville: Abengoa has been selected by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to develop four distribution projects in several regions of Mexico.

The projects are: Merida, Cancun, Obregon and Mexicali.

These awards represent an important milestone for the company in the country, as they are the first contracts signed since the approval of the restructuration of Abengoa Mexico’s debt in 2020. So, this is a new starting point in the Aztec nation, in which Abengoa has been present for 40 years.

The scope of Merida and Cancun projects is the construction of four 13.8 kV feeders. Meanwhile, the project in Obregon consists of the repair of an aerial section of a medium voltage transmission line. The last one, in Mexicali, requires the construction and commissioning of a second transformer bank in an existing substation.

CFE has relied once again in Abengoa for the construction of transmission and distribution projects, a sector in which the company has more than 25 years of experience. The last project done for this client was concluded in 2019 and consisted of the development of four transmission lines and two substations.

Abengoa has an extensive experience in transmission and distribution projects around the world counting more than 27,000 km of transmission lines and 330 electric substations built in the last 15 years. In Mexico, Abengoa is leader in electrical infrastructure, with more than 6,500 km of transmission lines.
