Chile greenlights new $140 M transmission line

Chile, Santiago: Chile’s environmental evaluation service SEA has approved construction of a $140 M transmission line.
The transmission line will be constructed in the centre-north Coquimbo region, where there are a growing number of renewable projects.
According to the environmental filing, the project involves building a 252 km line connecting the Nueva Pan de Azúcar and Punta Sierra substations, as well as linking them with the new Centella substation.
The project will be developed by Ferrovial Power Infrastructure, a Madrid-based firm that also owns and operates the 204 km Charrúa-Mulchén-Cautín line in southern Chile.
Construction was originally expected to start last October and operations in the second quarter of 2022.
According to a source, the two largest transmission projects currently under construction in Chile are the $138 M Pichirropulli-Tineo line in the south and the $93 M Los Changos-Kimal line in the north.
The country is currently tendering the $1.48 B Kimal-Lo Aguirre line, which will strengthen interconnection between Chile’s northern and central regions.
