Mexico, Nuevo León, China: Enel Green Power’s 269 MW Dolores wind farm in China municipality, Nuevo León, has commenced commercial operations.
Enel’s 269 MW Dolores wind farm is the third largest operational wind farm in Mexico, according to Windpower Intelligence.
Comprising 83 Nordex turbines, it becomes Mexico’s third largest wind farm, after the 424 MW Reynosa and the 396 MW Eólica del Sur projects.
The developer was awarded a power contract in November 2017, in Mexico’s third long-term power auction. The wind farm was initially scheduled to come online in mid-2020, but installation was not completed until September 2020.
The Mexican grid operator Cenace will purchase Dolores’ output for 15 years and clean electricity certificates for 20 years.
The overall investment in the construction of Dolores amounts to approx. $290 M and will be able to generate up to 938 GWh annually, avoiding the emission of over 525,000 tons of CO2 per year.
Its commissioning brings Mexico’s total operational wind capacity to just over 7 GW.
