Ester-filled transformer to pass short-circuit test

Austria, Weiz: Siemens Energy Austria has announced that another one of their ester-filled transformers has passed a short circuit test.
Another ester-filled Siemens Energy Transformer built at Siemens Transformers Linz factory in Austria successfully passed the short circuit test at the KEMA labs in Arnhem, Netherlands
After the successful post SC-testing in the factory test lab, this 60 MVA unit is now ready to be shipped and installed in the grid of the UK’s transmission system operator.
The specialty on this project also was the introduction of a new dashpot clamping concept, which has been developed in the Linz factory.
By producing ester filled transformers, Siemens is contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals number 7 and number 9: “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all” and “Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation”.
Compared to mineral oil-filled transformers, ester-filled transformers contain vegetable and naturally biodegradable ester oil, which has a high flame and flash point. That they are environmentally friendly, and highly safe for people, makes them particularly suitable for facilities and buildings which necessitate a high degree of fire protection, for example hospitals, schools, airports and even shopping centres. It is also the first choice for places where high environmental standards are required, such as offshore wind platforms.
