Ecuador to build new power transmission systems

Ecuador, Quito: Through the Electricity Corporation of Ecuador (CELEC EP), the country has begun the execution of four new transmission systems.

Ecuador, Quito: Through the Electricity Corporation of Ecuador (CELEC EP), the country has begun the execution of four new transmission systems.

The National Government will invest $168 M into the project, financed by the Inter-American Development Bank, through the IDB V loan.

The Transelectric Business Unit has signed the contracts and made the relevant preparations for commencing the works. The works are part of the expansion and reinforcement program of the National Transmission System (SNT), located in different provinces of the country and are as follows:

  • Las Orquídeas transmission system, 230/69 kV, in Guayas;
  • Tanicuchí transmission system, 230/138 kV, in Cotopaxi;
  • La Avanzada transmission system, 230/138 kV, in El Oro;
  • Cajas transmission system, 230/69 kV, in Imbabura, and
  • Expansion of the Posorja substation, 138/69 kV, in Santa Elena.

The process is carried out through two international public tenders for goods and related services and the construction of works for transmission systems at 230/138/69 kV as well as expansion of substation 138/69 kV.

At the moment, four contracts have been signed with different foreign companies and advances of $25 M have been paid. The tender for the construction of works will be published in the last quarter of this year on the website of CELEC, the IDB and newspapers with the largest national circulation, and national companies will be able to participate.
