India, Bihar: The Bihar government will install power transformers to cover all the affected Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state.

These institutions had previously faced shortages of critical equipment, although even after purchasing them, problems still persisted as the existing power supply was not sufficient to power the equipment.

The Labour Resource Department of the State Government has decided to install a 200 kVA transformer at ITI Saharsa and ITI Udakishunganj will soon be powered by a 300  kVA transformer.

Other installations include 200 kVA transformers at ITI Marhaura and ITI Bettiah, 100 kVA transformers at Mahila ITI Madhubani, ITI Haveli Kharagpur, ITI Patori and ITI Narkatiaganj. 63 kVA transformer has been planned for ITI Rosera. There are 149 government-run ITIs in Bihar.

The issue of power supply became more prominent after the necessary equipment was installed in various ITIs across the state. Since electricity connection is taken under alternate arrangement after commissioning of ITI, it did not prove to be sufficient to power all available equipment. As ITIs focus more on industry knowledge, students passing out from such affected institutes will be at a disadvantage as compared to other well-run institutions.

In February this year, the Bihar government had said that it has partnered with Tata Technologies to upgrade 60 ITIs in a year at a cost of $293 M (Rs 2,188 crore).

“After the upgrade, every year around 15,000 students will be given advance training on the latest machines and technologies in 60 advanced ITIs,” said Bihar Labour Resources Minister Jibesh Kumar in a statement.
