The Netherlands, Oosterhout: On 25 November, the first of three transformers was installed at a transformer station under construction in Park 15, Oosterhout.

As a result, considerable additions can be made, because large complexes such as a sports hall in Lent or XXL distribution warehouses at Park 15 cannot be built without the necessary power infrastructure. After all, the capacity of current transformer station close to the CWZ hospital in the Waalsprong area is already ‘full’.

With the arrival of the new transformer station, four extra wind turbines can finally be built along the A15 at Park 15. Two solar fields will also be installed between the highway and the Betuweroute. The old transformer substation at the CWZ will continue to function.

The three transformers measure 7 x 5 m and convert the 150 kV high voltage supplied by Tennet into 20 kV medium voltage, which Liander transports further to street level.

Installation of such equipment is a precision job. “Because once it is in place, such a transformer cannot just be easily lifted,” says Liander spokeswoman Marloes de Vink.

Of the three transformers, two will always be in permanent service from the beginning of 2023. The third will be a spare one, used in case of malfunction or maintenance. After the conversion, this new transformer station can supply approximately 50,000 households and / or business premises with electricity or take back generated green energy.

In the foreseeable future, Tennet and Liander will also invest in Bemmel substation, because parts of Lingewaard are also under the threat of being ‘locked’ in terms of power supply. That also applies to the Midden-Betuwe, the location of Dodewaard transformer substation.
