Chile: China Southern Power Grid (CSG), ISA Inversiones Chile and Transelec won the execution rights for the Kimal-Lo Aguirre HVDC power transmission project.

This project is the first of its kind in Chile.

The 1,500 km power line stretches through the northern part of Chile and is known as the country’s “electric highway”.

The project adopts ±600 kV conventional DC power transmission technology and has a transmission capacity of 3 GW.

Upon completion, it is expected to serve as an energy artery, transporting abundant renewable energy from northern Chile to Santiago, the capital. The project will also help the country achieve its goal of peak carbon dioxide emission by 2025 and shutting down of all coal-fired power plants by 2040.

In addition, as a major project under Chile’s national strategy, the power line is of great significance in promoting local sustainable energy development, building a clean energy structure and serving the country’s decarbonization goal.
