South Africa: Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd of South Africa looking to shortlist transformer manufacturers worldwide for potential supply of large power transformers.

Local suppliers come first, the company source has disclosed, indicating that this will augment local capacity when needed.

The company has, therefore, issued a request to shortlist potential manufacturers for the assessment, design, detailed engineering, manufacture, testing at works, supply, delivery, removal of existing transformers, placement on foundation, installation, erection, testing, commissioning (for service or storage) of class 3 and class 4 power transformers, reactors and HVDC.

Eligible manufacturers may find more information and documentation in Tender Bulletin on Eskom’s official website (enter “request to shortlist” in the search box).

The deadline for submission of information for pre-qualification is 27 February 2022.

According to Transformers Magazine Industry Navigator Report (TM INR), transformers designed for EV charging stations are expected to have the third highest growth rate for the market segment. Furthermore, most respondents (55 %) expect this market segment to grow 10–30 % within the next five years. The news confirms proves TM INR’s forecasts to be justified and valid.
