USA: Ameren Missouri has agreed to buy a 150 MW solar facility project from Chicago-based energy project developer Invenergy.

The subsidiary of Ameren Corp. has disclosed that the project, being developed in south-eastern Illinois, could begin generating energy as soon as 2024, subject to regulatory approvals. Terms of the purchase, and the exact location of the project, were not disclosed.

A company spokesman said more details would be released when Ameren Missouri files for regulatory approval with the Missouri Public Service Commission, which it anticipates doing in the second half of the year.

“We are entering the next phase of our clean energy transition while continuing to serve our customers with reliable, affordable energy,” Mark Birk, chairman and president of Ameren Missouri, said in a statement.

Officials said the project is consistent with Ameren Missouri’s renewable energy milestones established in its 2020 Integrated Resource Plan and the company’s goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Invenergy develops, owns and operates large-scale renewable and other clean energy generation and storage facilities in the Americas, Europe and Asia. The company and its affiliates have developed over 29,000 MW of projects that are in operation, construction or contracted, including wind, solar, and natural gas power generation and advanced energy storage projects, according to Invenergy.

For the first nine months of fiscal 2021, Ameren Corp. reported net income attributable to common shareholders of $865 M on total operating revenue of $4.8 B. That compares with net income of $756 M on total operating revenue of $4.5 B in the comparable period in 2020.
