KHNP ships main transformers for Romanian nuclear power plant

Romania: Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has announced shipping two transformers and auxiliary equipment for the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant in Romania.
The company landed the order in August 2021 in cooperation with Iljin Electric, a Korean company engaging in the nuclear power plant business.
The project is worth approximately $8 M (€7 M). KHNP is in charge of project management and quality control, while Iljin Electric is tasked with designing and manufacturing of the equipment and materials.
The main transformer is the core unit of nuclear power plants that raises the voltage of electricity produced by generators and connects it to a power system. This project is the first case of KHNP exporting nuclear power plant equipment and materials.
The shipped equipment will be installed in Unit 1 of the Cernavoda power plant between May and June.
“We could make this achievement thanks to close cooperation with Iljin Electric,” KHNP president Chung Jae-hoon said. “We will continue to actively support Korean nuclear power plant companies’ advancement into overseas markets.”
