- Market overview
Transformers are a very mature product in a very conservative and slowly evolving market. Nevertheless, favoured by the energy transition game changing innovations have been implemented in the distribution segment over the last decade.
1.1 New regulations
In many countries around the world new regulations regarding low loss transformers have been introduced. This goes in line with greener policies, a rising energy consumption and the urge of reduced carbon emissions. Penalties involved, it will be vital to optimize and control the energy losses of the transformer.
1.2 New applications
Energy Distribution is getting highly branched. Small generation plants based on renewable resources contribute to the demands of e-mobility and data centres. All of these applications require genuine transformers with high requirements in robustness and reliability. In addition, the performance of power generation plants and therefore the upper limit of high-power transformers is steadily on the rise.
1.3 New materials
Mainly driven by increased prices and higher demand aluminium conductors substitute the established copper material, which is difficult to source quickly in the desired quality today. As aluminium is lighter in weight but providing less conductivity than copper it does have significant effects on the coil design.
