Algeria, Hassi Messaoud: Earlier this year, Aïmene Benabderrahmane, the Algerian Prime Minister, inaugurated the new oil separation and compression centre “Upside North”.

This new infrastructure, connected to several wells operated in the Hassi Messaoud basin, consists of a gathering facility for crude oil produced from new producing wells in the area and a crude oil processing facility which will separate oil, gas and water with a capacity of 40,000 barrels per day.

WEG delivered for this project three electric drive systems for variable speed compressors including 30 kV step-down transformers, air-cooled frequency converters as well as 7 MW electric motors. The complete drive systems have undergone a combined acceptance test at the factory in Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil, before being shipped.

Global teamwork was the cornerstone for the success of this project. The different stakeholders, working mainly from Algeria, Japan, Germany and Brazil, have worked hand in hand to meet the different needs from the quotation phase, project execution, commissioning, start-up and up to product training for site personnel which will actually operate the equipment.
