Belgium: Omexom Renewable Energies Offshore has been awarded a contract for maintenance of the offshore substation at the Norther offshore wind farm in Belgium.

The scope of services encompasses troubleshooting in an event of equipment or system functionality failure, as well as unscheduled (inspection and repair) and scheduled maintenance, and statutory inspections such as those of fire and safety systems.

The offshore wind specialist EWE OSS was renamed to Omexom Renewable Energies Offshore in 2020 after being acquired by VINCI Energies.

For the maintenance of the Norther offshore substation, Norther BV – a joint venture between Elicio and Eneco – also selected GEOxyz a few months ago for the provision of mechanical services. The company will, also under a five-year contract, provide these services for the wind farm’s foundations as well.

The Norther offshore substation was installed approximately 25 km offshore the port of Zeebrugge in 2018, some two years before the 370 MW offshore wind farm became fully operational.

Norther is the first wind farm in Belgian territorial waters to feature turbines with a capacity of 8 MW and above.

In 2019, the technology giant Google signed an agreement with Norther BV to buy electricity produced by 92 MW of the wind farm’s full generation capacity to power its data centre in Saint-Ghislain.
