Egypt: The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics disclosed that Egypt has increased its amount of electricity from renewable energy by 17.2 %.

The amount of electrical energy generated in Egypt from renewable energy sources (wind / solar energy) increased from 8.7 billion kWh in (2019/2020) to 10.2 billion kWh in (2020/2021), with an increase of 17.2 %.

It should be noted that Egypt possesses the largest electrical capacities from wind and solar energy in the Middle East and North Africa.

The number of cars run by natural gas in Egypt increased from 42,292 cars during (2019/2020) to 51,000 cars during (2020/2021), with an increase in the number of car refuelling stations with natural gas reaching 530 stations by the end of 2021.

Egypt advanced in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) in 2022, as it ranked 21 among the 64 countries included in the index (its total emissions represent more than 90 % of the world’s total emissions).

Egypt is heading toward higher usage of renewable energy as part of its Egypt Vision 2030 agenda. Over the past few years, Egypt has been building the Benban Solar Energy Park in the southern province of Aswan, which is one of the world’s largest solar plants.

Egypt will also host the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference later this year in Sharm el-Sheikh, a Red Sea resort city.
