Ukraine, Kyiv: Ukrenergo announced the restoration of the cross-border power transmission line between Ukraine and Poland.

The Ukraine’s electricity transmission system operator is cooperating with the Polish electricity TSO, PSA, on the project of reconnecting the power transmission line between the two countries.

In June 2022, Ukrainian Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko and Polish Minister of Climate and Environment Anna Moskwa signed a Memorandum of Understanding on energy security that set out to revive a key power line between the two countries before the end of this year.

Exports to Poland resumed a few weeks after the synchronisation of Ukraine’s power system with the continental power grid of Europe and now amount to 215 MW.

The commissioning of the restored interconnector at the beginning of next year can increase the physical capacity of exporting Ukrainian electricity to Poland to almost 1,000 MW, confirmed Ukrenergo.

“Increasing the export of Ukrainian electricity is a step towards the creation of a pan-European system of energy security,” said Ukrenergo in its press statement adding that Ukrainian electricity is a good alternative to Russian gas on the European market.
