Netherlands, Friesland: During transport to the Louwsmeer HV substation (Tytsjerk, Friesland) last week, a new 220 kV transformer (weighing 250 T) fell over.

The transformer was previously shipped by water from Schiedam to a temporary unloading quay. For the last 1000 m, it was placed on a specially equipped truck, reported Dutch operator TenneT TSO B.V.

The day before the transport, an old broken transformer was removed from the same station on the same route to the unloading quay to be shipped for recycling.

Fortunately, there were no injuries. The company reported that the transformer fell due to a currently unknown reason, however, together with transporter Wagenborg Nedlift, it is currently investigating the cause of the accident.

Louwsmeer station is currently being expanded, and the works are to continue in the coming years as part of the grid reinforcement in western Friesland, including the upgrade of transformer capacity.
