Panama: Panama’s state power transmission company Etesa has budgeted $99 M to overhaul the 230 kV, 292 km Veladero-Panamá line.

The project will take the link’s capacity to 500 MVA from 247 MVA during normal operations and 366 MVA in an emergency.

The revamp will help guarantee dispatch from growing hydropower generation in the west of the country and new hydro, wind and solar projects.

Site visits will be held 5–6 January 2023 and an information meeting on 18 January with offers for the 790-day contract due 27 January, according to the procurement information.

Veladero-Panamá is one of the country’s three main transmission lines in operation; a fourth is under development.
