Panama, Panama City: Panama’s state power transmission company Etesa has issued a call for tenders to improve load demand capacity in Colón province.

The $22.6 M project entails the overhaul of 230 kV substations Santa Rita and Sabanitas, and the construction of a 1 km transmission line to connect them.

Etesa highlights the retirement of bunker and coal-fired plants in the area and new generation connection points, such as those for the natural gas plant Costa Norte (380 MW) in operation and the planned Gatún (670 MW) complex.

An information meeting for the 662-day contract will be held on 2 February and offers are due on 28 February, according to procurement information.

Etesa also has procurement underway for the GIS Burunga substation, the Mata de Nance-Frontera transmission line, the revamp of the Veladero-Panamá transmission line and the addition of a transformer at the Boquerón III substation.
