Demanding applications ask for innovative solutions. For this reason, the German based companies, IsoTek and Schweizer, continuously develop new manufacturing processes and system solutions that positively support your projects. With decades of experience, IsoTek and Schweizer manufacture individual and complete solutions for electrical insulation in transformer construction. The focus is based on developing a direct collaboration and open communication with their partners.

The hands-on mentality and exchange of knowledge was shown at their first Workshop in Möckmühl, Germany in the fall of 2022. The two-day event was mainly dedicated to innovations around transformers, such as the Polyglas© semiconductor tape POSECO, as well as the high temperature solutions from Schweizer.

POSECO, short for Polyglas® Semi Conductor, is a conductive strapping tape. It was developed as a replacement for a metallized core shielding and mechanical fixing straps around the core sheets. Material usage, costs and labour time will be optimized due to the high mechanical strength compared to other conductive materials such as fabric-based prepregs. The advantages of POSECO are, for one, technical. With POSECO you achieve compactly pressed and banded core sheets. The cured cylinder serves not only as an electrical shielding, but also for mechanical support for the winding. Another advantage is the risk minimization for partial discharge due to the elimination of the metallized core shield cylinder. The continuous polyglass cylinder prevents sheet displacement due to acceleration during transport and serves as a short-circuit proof support between core and winding.

The newly developed high-temp insulation materials based on Nomex®, hybrid materials and thermally upgraded materials are one of the main focuses in the IsoTek/ Schweizer collaboration: a full insulation kit, starting from 105 °C up to 180 °C that complies with all temperature classes as per IEC 60076-14. This brings the chance for a mix of different insulating materials with different temperature classes for optimizing design, cost and size reduction as the market demands.
