UK, Scotland, Kintore: Using a 250 T girder bridge, Collett & Sons Ltd has delivered two 215 T super grid transformers from Stafford to Leyhole, Kintore.

Located at General Electric’s (GE) Stafford engineering facility, the two 5-m high transformers were delivered to the location upon extensive surveying and route planning.

The transformers were delivered on two separate occasions, where both departed the GE’s facility in Stafford and were moved to Ellesmere port on a 250 T capacity Goldhofer girder bridge trailer.

Having arrived at the port, each transformer was loaded onto a coaster vessel and shipped to the port of Aberdeen.

Finally, the units were then loaded back onto the girder bridge trailer using a 600 T strut crane and transported to the 400 kV substation extension site at Leyhole.

Once on site, the transformer was offloaded and manoeuvred into its final position using Collett’s hydraulic jacking and skidding system.
