India, New Delhi: Tata Power and Enel Group have partnered to implement two pilot projects involving automation and smart metering.

The first pilot project is to focus on accelerating the digitalization and automation of secondary substations. The project objective is to virtualise grid functionalities and enable protection, control, automation, real-time fault detection and service restoration of the network.

The second project is aimed at testing and evaluating a new hybrid smart metering technology featuring dual communication channels via hybrid power line communication (PLC) and radio frequency (RF).

“Enel Grids is proud to reaffirm its commitment to support the country’s ambitious smart metering and digitalization plans to modernize existing distribution grids increasing performance and quality, as well to tap the incredible grid development opportunities in a country where demographic and economic growth are pushing electrification, also through our affiliate Gridspertise, contributing to India’s energy transition pathway,” said Antonio Cammisecra, Head of Enel Grids.
