USA, Florida: Duke Energy Florida is to commence work on its first floating solar array pilot at the company’s Hines Energy Complex in Bartow, Polk County, Florida.

The array will consist of 1,800 floating solar modules over about 2 acres of water surface in the complex’s cooling pond, and it will generate around 1 MW of power.

The study is part of Duke Energy’s Vision Florida initiative, which tests novel technologies like battery energy storage and microgrids in order to promote the future of renewable energy.

The company’s crews will construct and assemble the floating array on land in sections before deploying it on the sea using anchors. The entire project is expected to be completed in between five and six months.
